Simple Homemade Biscuits
Easy to follow instructions for delicious homemade biscuits!
Ingredients
• 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
• 2 tbsp. baking powder
• 1 tbsp. granulated sugar
• 1 tsp. kosher salt
• 1/2 c. (1 stick) butter, very cold, plus more for brushing
• 1 c. cold buttermilk
Stick the butter in the freezer. Measure out and combine the dry ingredients.
Grate or cut up butter in small pieces. Mix the very very cold butter in the dry ingredients with a fork just until combined well.
Make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients and add the 1 cup of buttermilk. Using a wooden spoon, stir until comes all together. Add more buttermilk a little at a time, as needed to bring the dry ingredients together into a ball. But don’t add too much.
Flour a surface and roll out into a rectangle
My “rectangles” never actually look like rectangles 😬
Just close enough works out every time, no stress. 😁
Fold into thirds like a piece of paper that you’re about to stuff into an envelope.
Repeat that three times, dusting the surface with flour as needed to make it easy to work with.
Using a biscuit cutter or the top of a glass that looks the right size for biscuits..cut out your biscuits. Combine all the leftover dough and flatten again and again until all used up. You want to flatten out the dough to around half an inch, you don’t want them to be too flat.
Place on parchment paper lined baking sheet and brush tops with melted butter, if desired.
Bake at 425 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until browned.
These biscuits were quick to mix up and were delicious with jam and also with gravy one morning when we had biscuits and gravy. These are the first homemade biscuits that I’ve made. I know there’s a lot of biscuit recipes out there. This is just one that I have had success with more than once now 😊 I would love if you’d share your favorite biscuit recipe with us. Give it to us in the comments!
Please leave a comment and let us know if you try it out, what you think! Or if you have a favorite biscuit recipe you’d like to share.
