Summertime Favorite-Fried Squash

You wanna take some good, well behaved garden veggies and make them naughty? Well lets batter those bad boys up and fry them! 😆 Home cooked fried squash is such a treat! Easy to whip up; the longest portion of this recipe is the actual frying of the squash in batches.

This is my mom’s recipe and it is tried and true.

Batter for Fried Squash

💛 1 cup flour

💛 1 tsp baking powder

💛 1 tsp salt

💛 1 egg

💛 1 cup milk

💛 1/4 cup vegetable oil

Mix all ingredients up in a medium sized bowl until blended well.

Dip your sliced up squash (approximately 3/8” thick) in flour before dipping in the batter. I found that it’s best to keep one hand “dry”

and one hand for the “wet” ingredients. This prevents your hands from gunking up too much.

Fry in vegetable oil until golden brown. I don’t know how hot the oil is because I don’t have the right kind of thermometer 😅

but I heat it on medium heat and let it get hot enough that if you sprinkle a tiny bit of flour on the oil, it will sizzle.

Fry for about 5 minutes on both sides, until browned. Again, the time will depend on how hot you have your oil, so just watch them!

Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

This works great for zucchini too! Just a word of warning, the zucchini skin seems to be a bit tougher than squash and so beware of biting into a fresh, hot-from-the-oil zucchini! It may not tear away completely and the whole zucchini slice will come out and burn you 😬

Go ahead and make a big batch!! After frying, these freeze beautifully! I warm them up in the air fryer at 375 for 8-10 minutes. Perfect!

These evoke good childhood memories for me. I only remember my mom making them once a year (is that right, mom?!) So I relished them! And about made myself sick on them 😅

I have an August birthday and so I always requested these for my birthday (that and fried okra 😃 I was a healthy girl! 😉)

I hope you guys love this as much as we do. Let us know in the comments what you think!

Blessings! ☀️ Summer
